A volunteer is a guide and an advisor as a girl discovers her values; a support as she connects with the world; a believer as she takes action to make a difference.

Girl Scouts exist for girls, but it exists because of volunteers. By giving your time and talent, you can make it possible for girls to build character and skills for success in the real world. Research shows the influence one caring adult has on a child will last a lifetime. No matter what your interests, age, or amount of time you can offer, Girl Scouts needs your help to provide opportunities for girls to grow strong. We will match your interests with the needs of girls, and work around your busy schedule. No experience is necessary to volunteer - training is provided for all volunteer positions.
For example, you can choose to
Work Directly with Girls in a Variety of Settings
- Be a leader/advisor to girls or offer to help a leader/advisor
- Design and/or facilitate a program or event for girls
- Share a skill, career, or special interest with girls
Reach Out to the Community
- Help with public relations efforts
- Suggest and coordinate a service project
- Speak about Girl Scouts to community groups
Work with Adults
- Serve on the Board of Directors or on a Board Committee
- Lead a workshop or seminar for adult Girl Scout volunteers
- Provide administrative assistance with ongoing record keeping or other paperwork
- Become a Girl Scout volunteer trainer
- Serve as a troop committee member or "cookie mom"
Types of Volunteers
Troop Leader
Have an immediate impact on the lives of girls in your community by serving as a role model, mentor, friend and leader. You can develop a variety of skills through training, and explore new adventures. If you enjoy working with youth and promoting strong spirits in today's young women, this is the role for you!
Assistant Troop Leader
One or more assistant leaders allow for more safety, activities and fun for girls! Your participation helps keep Girl Scouting available for all girls who are interested - and enriches your leadership skills at the same time.
First-Aider: An adult who has taken local Girl Scout Council approved first-aid training from a nationally recognized organization.
Service Unit Manager
Support Girl Scout troop leaders in your geographic area. In partnership with your Service Unit Team, you will help to develop a plan to recruit and develop leaders, meet membership and Annual Fund goals and ensure our girl members grow to become leaders through quality programming in your area.
Service Unit Registrar
A Service Team member in a specific geographic area who processes membership forms of girls and adults in that Service Unit. These forms then go to the Council for submission to GSUSA.
Service Unit Secretary
Maintains written communications and minutes of Service Unit meetings.
Service Unit Treasurer
Oversees the finances of the Service Unit and monitors troop finances.
Task Force
A group of volunteers, assisted by staff, which work on and implement a short term assignment for the Council.
Adult Learning Facilitator
Educates and supports leaders in a wide variety of areas - from troop leadership to camping skills to songs and games. You can enhance your own abilities while supporting volunteers as they learn about Girl Scouting. Lead workshops in your geographical area that suit your schedule and interests. Trainers are needed for Orientation to Girl Scouting, New Level Training, CPR/First Aid, and Outdoor Skills.
Troop Organizer
Works with the Service Team to ensure that every girl within the assigned Service Unit had the opportunity to participate in Girl Scouting, by recruiting and placing girls and adults in troops/groups that meet their needs.
