Girl
Scouts
is a very active organization. Every year, Girl Scout
members participate in a variety of programs that include trips, tours, and
special classes on the environment, safety, animal care, creativity, diversity, substance
abuse, healthy habits, computers,
and much more. As girls complete these projects and programs, they
earn badges, patches, and pins. To see a listing of a few patches girls may earn, click here.

Troops/Groups
One of the greatest experiences of Girl Scouting is being
part of a troop or group. Troops are usually made up of girls in the same age
level. Groups, on the other hand, consist of broader age levels. The troops and
groups are led by volunteers who provide adult guidance. Girls plan and
participate in educational programs, troop trips, and
community service activities. (At left, Girl Scouts with Troop 260 are pictured with UNCA Women's Basketball players.)
Girls sell cookies under the management of their troop
leader, from whom they learn about money management, budgeting, and organization. Troop leaders also keep the girls informed of Council and national
events and opportunities.
