2006 Western North Carolina Girl Scout Cookie Cook-Off

Asheville, NC – January 25, 2006 - What do you do with a box of crushed Girl Scout cookies?  Make dessert of course!

For the past 4 years, the Girl Scouts of Western North Carolina Pisgah Council has worked with restaurants (primarily in Buncombe and Henderson Counties ) to promote a highly successful annual cookie sale with a Cookie Cook-Off Gala. This year we are organizing a new version of the WNC Girl Scout Cookie Cook-Off - by opening it up to restaurants and bakeries throughout the 15 counties served by the WNC Pisgah Girl Scout Council.

Participating restaurants/bakeries will create a dessert based on one of eight varieties of Girl Scout cookies and then sell the dessert in their eatery for part or all of a month starting February 24 and running through March 20. A portion of the proceeds from each dessert sale will be donated to Girl Scouts of Western North Carolina Pisgah Council. Girl Scout friends and restaurant patrons will be able to vote for their favorite dessert by visiting the Girl Scout website at www.girlscoutswnc.org, or by completing a paper ballot available at participating eateries. An award will be presented to the restaurant/bakery which receives the most votes for favorite dessert in each of 4 geographic areas: Area 1 includes Asheville & Buncombe County ; Area 2 covers Haywood, Henderson and Transylvania Counties ; Area 3 consists of Avery, Madison , McDowell, Mitchell and Yancey Counties ; Area 4 includes Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Jackson , Macon and Swain Counties .

We are very excited about this opportunity to work with our friends in the restaurant community. The response has been very positive with restaurants eager to draw new patrons to their establishment while supporting the benefits of Girl Scout programs for the girls in our communities! As of this week 24 eateries have already registered to participate in the Cookie Cook-Off:
