For you adults who have said, "My troop would do ____________ if we only had the certification," this weekend is for
you! Choose from earning your certification in any of the following:

u Primitive Camping Skills
u Low Ropes Course

Climbing Wall

Extended Troop Trip
With this training, you can instruct your girls in these skills. As a bonus activity, you can spend some time with a leader who has taken her troops to Europe several times and find out how they do it. And just for fun and for adults only, the High Ropes Course will be open on Saturday night!
Does your troop want more than one of the certifications? Invite co-leaders, parents, or other willing adults to participate with you.
Lodging will be available at camp; to cut costs, we will not provide meals. You should bring your own food. A refrigerator and camp stove will be available or you might plan to go into Brevard for dinner.

Archery Instructor
Course Number AT T725
Here's a new activity to challenge your girls from Junior Age Level up! In as little as 8 hours, you can become certified to teach basic archery programs. You'll learn how to set up and operate a safe short-term archery program, how to teach new archers, how to maintain your equipment, and how to create fun games for your new archers. Equipment is available for check out from Camp Pisgah. Earn a certificate from the National Archery Association, taught by a qualified instructor from the National Alliance for the Development of Archery (NADA) This course is open to the public. Visit

ARC Fundamentals of Canoeing
Course Number AT F218
Fundamentals of Canoeing is for adults with 
little or no canoeing experience. You'll get plenty of hands-on learning, practicing paddling strokes, maneuvers and terminology, and learning safe boating skills on Camp Pisgah's lake. Those who have some experience are invited to come to brush up on skills. Completion of this course earns you a certificate from American Red Cross and prepares you to take ARC Small Craft Safety in the future.

ARC Small Craft Safety
Course Number AT F220
Do your girls want to go canoeing? The Small Craft Safety course will cover rescues, emergency techniques and safety concerns, and will earn you the certificate Safety Wise requires for taking your troop canoeing. This course is for experienced paddlers.
An experienced canoer can test out of the paddling session on Saturday. Call Nancy at 884-2414 if you feel you might be able to test out.

Challenge Course Facilitator Training
Course Number AT T715
The Challenge Course offers ground-level, team building activities that are suitable for every age
level. At the completion of the training in safety and facilitation skills you'll be able to bring your troop to camp and use the course. Facilitators should have a good sense of adventure and enjoy plain old fun! A creative mind is a help, a devious one may be even better! There are no health requirements other than the ability to navigate the uneven ground around the course.

Climbing Wall Facilitator Training
Course Number AT T717
You will be able to facilitate Camp Pisgah's climbing wall once you've completed this one day training. Learn to use and care for the safety equipment, how much encouragement and how much "pushing" to do, tips for making climbing easier, and how to run a safe course. You'll have several opportunities to climb the wall yourself. Facilitators should be patient and enjoy seeing girls succeed. Setting up the course may require you to be at a height of about 25 feet.

Primitive Camping Skills
Course Number AT O308
Has camping become "old hat" for your troop? Want to up the challenge for them? Or do you
just remember Girl Scouting's serious camping days and want to share the experience with other leaders? Come and really "rough it" for a night. Pitch your tent, cook with more challenging methods, lash together camp furniture, learn how "Leave No
Trace" can co-exist with primitive camping. Why, you can even chop your own wood so it can warm you twice!
Date: Saturday and Sunday, August 20-21
Time: 9:00 a.m. Saturday through 12 noon Sunday
Prerequisite: Camping experience will be most helpful.
Cost: $12.00 for dinner and breakfast.

This course is required for Girl Scout leaders whose troops plan trips longer than two nights and three days. Review appropriate planning and girl involvement, safety, transportation, emergency procedures, insurance, council approval, money making, group management skills and more.

Tips from a Traveling Troop
Course Number AT L151
Do you or your girls have a desire to roam, to travel to distant places, to learn how people live in other countries? And do you think, "There's no way we can get a trip like that together?" Come talk to our council's traveling troop expert, Gail Vance. Gail has traveled widely with her family, visited Our Chalet and Pax Lodge, participated in Guide/Scout Jamborees in England and Sweden, accompanied her troop to London, and is just back from accompanying her troop to an encampment in Denmark. She has the answers to all your questions! Spend some time with her and learn how she and her girls accomplish so much.

For adults who think they MIGHT be interested in becoming a facilitator for the High Ropes course, here is a chance to try out the course without your girls watching. See how the Giant's Swing feels or how much strength it does take to cross the Cargo Net. Are you able to conquer your fear of heights? Speed down the Zip Line. Afterward, if there is a demand, we'll schedule a High Ropes Facilitator Training.

Orienteering, Step by Step
Course Number AT O314
Does the word "Orienteering" scare you?
Do you want to help your girls learn about maps and compasses, but you're not
really sure where to start or what to do? This course will take you
through learning to read different kinds of maps, find your pace, use a
compass correctly, how to lay and read trail signs, and design a simple
orienteering course to use with your girls. You will take home handouts
that will also give you some practical ideas and activities to work with your
girls.
